In a move aimed at bolstering renewable energy infrastructure and supporting local sustainability initiatives, REV Renewables Development has unveiled plans to construct a significant battery storage facility in Oceanside, the San Diego Union Tribune reported.
The proposed location for the battery storage facility sits on a vacant 2.71-acre site near Oceanside’s airport in the San Luis Rey Valley. Nathan Murdock, Director of Business Development for REV Renewables, recently met with Oceanside Planning Division officials to discuss the project’s feasibility, aiming for operational status by 2027. If realized, this venture would mark REV Renewable’s third battery storage facility in San Diego County, following successful ventures in Vista and Chula Vista.
The facility’s design mirrors that of its predecessors, featuring a warehouse-style building housing lithium-ion batteries and essential electrical and control equipment. Additionally, the facility will connect to the grid via SDG&E’s San Luis Rey Substation on El Camino Real, further integrating renewable energy sources into the local power network.
Battery storage facilities like the one proposed by REV Renewables are becoming increasingly vital as California intensifies its reliance on solar-generated electricity. With the state targeting ambitious goals of 90 percent carbon-free electricity by 2035 and 100 percent by 2045, such projects are crucial for meeting these milestones and ensuring grid stability, particularly during emergencies or periods of high demand.
