SAN DIEGO – Building on decades of local roots and supporting continued growth in the San Diego region, Brookfield Properties has completed a nearly $2 million investment to reimagine the company’s regional headquarters in Downtown San Diego’s East Village neighborhood. Known as Eagles Hall, the historic, 18,000 square foot office building has been modernized to accommodate more than 100 employees and support the expansion of its local team and project footprint.

“Brookfield Properties is committed to building on its local legacy and preparing for a promising future ahead in San Diego,” said Ted Lohman, Vice President at Brookfield Properties. “As we continue to build our pipeline of projects and expand our local team, our reimagined workplace will help position us for long-term success and an even deeper connection to our community.”

The Eagles Hall office was reworked to meet today’s workplace needs and flexibility. The project included the demolition of inefficient, large offices and storage areas to create an open work environment and the addition of new conference and lounge areas to promote collaboration. To handle an increased virtual and technology-backed world, the entire space has been outfitted with the latest audio-visual and information technology infrastructure.

“Our updated home has been modernized to support the way our team works, through a mix of collaborative in-person and virtual methods,” added Lohman. “We’re proud to have completed this project under budget, while navigating widespread supply chain issues.”

Located at 733 Eighth Ave, Eagles Hall was constructed in 1917 with a Greek neoclassical revival exterior design. After serving a variety of uses and several decades of vacancy, the property was renovated in 1997 to serve as the home of forward-thinking development firm OliverMcMillan. In February of 2018, Brookfield Properties acquired OliverMcMillan bolstering the global firm’s presence in the San Diego region. Two years later, Brookfield Properties acquired San Diego-based Newland, a nationally respected masterplan homebuilder, bringing all of our area teams under one roof at Eagles Hall.

“Over the past few years, Brookfield Properties has strategically grown in San Diego and we will continue leveraging our global reach and expertise locally,” said Lohman. “We have the unique ability and resources to make complex real estate projects come to life and are looking forward to further driving transformational change right in our backyard.”

Since 1968, the team has successfully launched dozens of community redefining projects across San Diego County that have earned nearly 50 design awards from national and international institutions. Today, Brookfield Properties is actively pursuing the City of San Diego’s Sports Arena redevelopment opportunity as part of the Discover Midway team. Their vision is to create a vibrant neighborhood with 3,277 housing units at all income levels, a completely reimagined Sports Arena experience, more than 500,000 square feet of retail and commercial space, 11 acres of parks, and a local-focused Mercado, among other uses. Discover Midway is comprised of global and local leaders from ASM Global, Affirmed Housing, Brookfield Properties, and National CORE. Together, this group has decades of expertise in creating and financing dynamic mixed-use developments featuring housing at a wide range of affordability, entertainment, retail, parks and green spaces, and meaningful community benefits.
