In the heart of Oceanside’s El Corazon Park, a grand vision is taking shape – the Frontwave Arena. With its steel superstructure now complete and construction moving into high gear, this indoor sports complex is poised to become the crown jewel of the city’s recreational landscape. Anchored by the spirit of competition and community engagement, Frontwave Arena promises to be a versatile venue that caters to a wide range of sports, entertainment, and community events.
The recent “topping out” ceremony held on August 4 marked a significant milestone in the arena’s development journey. Builders signed a metal rafter placed high above the main concourse, symbolizing the completion of the steel framework. However, this milestone is just the beginning of the intricate detailing that will shape the arena’s character and functionality, according to a report in The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The construction of Frontwave Arena is led by Level 10 Construction, and the project aims to enclose the structure by October to preempt the rainy season. As Dan Moreno, the senior superintendent, notes in the report, “the superstructure was the easy part.” Now, the project enters a phase of comprehensive interior work, including utilities installation, water and sewer lines, and electrical connections.
Frontwave Arena’s location within El Corazon Park is planning to enhance its appeal. Positioned near the William A. Wagner Aquatic Center, the El Corazon Senior Center, apartment buildings, and a growing commercial hub, the arena offers visitors a multi-faceted experience. Its proximity to the SoCal Sports Complex, a bustling soccer tournament venue, adds an extra layer of utility and shared parking space.
Anticipation is building not just for sports enthusiasts but also for lovers of music and entertainment. The arena’s chief operating officer, Josh Elias, envisions a space that accommodates various forms of entertainment, from sports events to concerts and more. The facility’s flexibility allows for crowd sizes ranging from 2,000 to 7,500 guests, ensuring its suitability for a wide array of performances and shows.
The architectural design of Frontwave Arena incorporates the scenic beauty of its surroundings. An outdoor plaza with a fountain at the main entrance enhances the welcoming atmosphere. This plaza, designed to offer food, beverages, and an outdoor stage, promises to be a vibrant space for community engagement and relaxation.
Inside, a premium deck and lounge will provide a panoramic view of the indoor playing field, allowing visitors to soak in the excitement of events while enjoying first-class amenities. Sixteen suites, two VIP decks, and two main bars will provide guests access to premium experiences.
Beyond its entertainment value, Frontwave Arena serves as an economic catalyst for Oceanside. With construction costs amounting to $85 million, the project is funded by a partnership of private groups, led by Sudberry Properties, which has a portfolio of of residential and commercial properties within El Corazon.
As the arena progresses towards its projected completion date in June of 2024, The San Diego Sockers, a professional soccer team, has announced that it will place its new home within these walls. The team’s 24 home games each season will contribute to the vibrancy of Frontwave Arena, making it a hub of North County indoor sports.
