The Core Companies and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) are celebrating a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to provide supportive housing for Veterans, with the grand opening of 74 new housing units for formerly homeless and disabled Veterans at MacArthur Field in West Los Angeles located at 671 MacArthur Avenue. This event, taking place on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 10:30 AM, will also mark the topping off of Phase B, which will add another 74 units to the project. The combined efforts will create a total of 148 affordable housing units for Veterans at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center’s North Campus.
MacArthur Field is a key component of the VA West Los Angeles Campus Master Plan, an ambitious initiative aimed at addressing the housing crisis for homeless and at-risk Veterans. This development is poised to become the largest supportive housing project for Veterans in the country, with plans to eventually provide housing for at least 1,200 individuals and their families. In addition to housing, the project will offer a range of services designed to help Veterans transition into stable, fulfilling lives. These services will include access to world-class medical care, a community town center, job training, and other essential support programs.
Key local officials, including Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, City Councilwoman Traci Park, and Jennifer Seeger, Deputy Director of the Division of State Financial Assistance at the California Department of Housing and Community Development, will attend the grand opening ceremony. Other notable figures at the event will include Robert C. Merchant, Medical Center Director for the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, and Chris Neale, President of The Core Companies, which has been instrumental in bringing this project to life.
For The Core Companies, a vertically integrated real estate firm established in 1989, this project represents a culmination of its commitment to providing affordable housing in communities with access to jobs, transportation, and recreational amenities. The company’s approach to development focuses on improving the quality of life for its residents while ensuring that the neighborhoods it creates are vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive.
The new 74-unit Phase A of MacArthur Field is now ready for occupancy. It will provide permanent homes for Veterans who have faced homelessness or live with disabilities. These units, along with the soon-to-be-completed Phase B, will offer stability and support, allowing Veterans to rebuild their lives in a safe and welcoming community.
