SAN DIEGO – Perkins&Will, a research-driven architecture and design firm, announces its expansion into San Diego with the opening of a full-service studio, effective today. With thriving practices already in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the firm’s new San Diego practice will provide an enhanced level of local service to its growing network of clients in the region.

“Our continued investment in Southern California reflects our commitment to our clients and partners, as well as our enthusiasm to create places where people and communities thrive,” says Kay Kornovich, Principal and Managing Director at Perkins&Will. “San Diego is an exciting hub for the region, and this only strengthens our ability to serve our West Coast clients.”

Perkins&Will’s experience in San Diego began with the award-winning i3 Illumina project, which started design in 2011, and now includes APEX, Center for Novel Therapeutics, and Franklin Antonio Hall at the University of California San Diego. Its multi-disciplinary work spans nearly every sector.

“BioMed Realty has collaborated with Perkins&Will on several high-profile projects in our hometown market,” said Kevin Tremblay, Vice President of the life science developer’s San Diego portfolio. “In fact, the San Diego Architectural Foundation recognized their innovative approach to designing the Center for Novel Therapeutics with its most prestigious honor, the Malone Grand Orchid Award.”

The firm’s new San Diego studio will be staffed locally by full-time design leaders and supported by talent from Perkins&Will studios worldwide. With access to the firm’s global resources, clients in the San Diego area can directly benefit from a broad range of design expertise, no matter the size or complexity of their project.

“We’re extremely proud of the projects we’ve completed throughout the region thus far but we’re really just getting started,” said Kornovich. “Every sector here is thriving and there is a clear appreciation for design that inspires creativity and enhances the community, and it’s all done with great respect for the existing surroundings and the planet.”
