After years of anticipation and multiple revisions that downsized its original scope, the Culver Public Market project is now slated to break ground in mid-2025. With an estimated cost of $23.8 million, the scaled-back development received unanimous approval from the Culver City Council last week, securing an amended agreement with Regency Centers and its development partner, Kennedy Wilson. Located on now-vacant sites at the intersections of Washington Boulevard and Centinela Avenue, the project is set to bring a new retail and dining hub to the area, albeit with a reduced footprint from earlier plans.

The latest design calls for over 13,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, complemented by 9,600 square feet of outdoor dining areas and public plazas. The scaled-down structure also includes a two-story parking garage with 122 spaces, offering much-needed parking for the surrounding area. While smaller than initially envisioned, the design retains its intended aesthetic—a “simple, rustic” style that harmonizes with nearby buildings, according to a report in Urbanize.

The rendering of the Culver Public Market reveals a vibrant and inviting community space that blends modern architecture with a warm, industrial charm. The market’s facade features exposed steel frames and wood accents, giving it a contemporary edge softened by rustic touches. Expansive glass windows stretch across the front of the building, allowing natural light to pour into the interior. This transparency connects the indoor spaces with the lively streetscape outside, inviting passersby to explore the market within.

Above the entrance, bold, retro-modern lettering proudly displays “Culver Public Market,” and individual signs hint at the various cafes and eateries that await inside. These touches bring color and character to the building, hoping to spark curiosity and draw in visitors. At street level, rows of tables and umbrellas line the sidewalk, creating a relaxed outdoor dining area where people can gather, eat, and enjoy the bustling atmosphere.

Greenery is woven into the design, with planters and landscaped patches softening the urban landscape around the market. This touch of nature brings warmth to the structure, complementing its industrial materials and enhancing the community-focused ambiance. Wide sidewalks and open plaza areas complete the design, making it a pedestrian-friendly destination that encourages locals and visitors alike to linger and explore.

Together, these elements craft a dynamic and welcoming space—a new social hub for Culver City where modern aesthetics meet the inviting charm of a neighborhood market.

Culver City, alongside its Redevelopment Successor Agency, has committed $17 million to the project, which is expected to boost local economic growth. Once completed, the market is anticipated to generate $159,800 in annual tax revenue and create 101 permanent jobs, supporting Culver City’s continued development as a vibrant destination for shopping and dining.

Construction on the market could start as soon as summer 2025. The estimated two-year timeline projects a completion date of late 2026 or early 2027.
