Following a recent meeting with the Long Beach City Council, more residential space could soon be making its way to the city. During the meeting, the council voted to move forward plans for a 21-story residential project from WPH Holdings.

The proposed project would be located at 615 E Ocean Blvd. and consists of 203 residential units as well as parking for 261 vehicle parking spaces and 41 bicycle parking spaces. Overall, the project would feature a mix of unit types, including 96 one-bedroom, 76 two-bedroom, two three-bedroom, 24 studios and five townhome units. Of the total, 13 would be reserved at affordable units as well.

Designs for the project come from Studio One Eleven, with renderings revealing a modern building with a mix of materials, including metal composite panels, glass and concrete.

In November, the project was approved by the Long Beach Planning Commission.

“The project design features a modern sleek treatment including a staggered protrusion element that serves as balcony space and an architectural aesthetic appeal. The lower levels also include a concealed curtain wall system with fritted glazing surrounding the automated parking facility. Boardform finished cast-in-place concrete finish along with aluminum metal composite panels envelop the exterior which is intentionally and abruptly interrupted at levels 14 and 15 where a partial cutaway occurs to provide not only a unique appealing design, but also functional amenity spaces with attractive city and coastal views,” city documents at the time of the Planning meeting state.

Long Beach has a number of residential projects in various stages of development.

One project that recently received approval from the Long Beach Planning Commission would bring 160 units to a site at 2515 Atlantic Ave. The project comes from GLB Properties and would involve the construction of a six-story residential building as well as parking for up to 74 vehicles and 23 bicycles.

Another project to recently be pushed through by the planning commission is Onni Group’s Onni Marina Shores project. The project is proposed for a site at 6500 Pacific Coast Highway and would include the construction of 600 residential units and 4,000 square feet of commercial space. Parking for 1,100 vehicles is also included.
