San Antonio Mayor Moves to Kill Midtown Tax Zone as Staff Push $593MM Extension to 2060

City Manager Erik Walsh's staff want to run the 542-acre Midtown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone through 2060 to help finance a $60 million land purchase for a new Spurs arena and infrastructure for a McCombs Enterprises mixed-use project near the Pearl, while Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones argues the district has already accomplished what it was created to do and its revenue belongs in a general fund facing a $158 million shortfall.
